Sửa lỗi Windows Update 0x8000FFFF trên Windows 10/11

Mã lỗi 0x8000FFFF phổ biến khi Windows Update không cài được bản cập nhật. Xảy ra trên cả Windows 10 và 11. Nguyên nhân đa dạng, cần thử lần lượt các giải pháp dưới đây.

Các nguyên nhân tiềm ẩn

  • Lỗi vặt (glitch) của Windows Update (WU).
  • File phụ thuộc WU bị hỏng (corruption).
  • Bản update xấu (bad update) xung đột driver.
  • File Hosts chứa entry xung đột.
  • Thư mục SoftwareDistribution / Catroot2 bị hỏng.
  • Antivirus thứ 3 chặn update (đặc biệt AV miễn phí: Avast, Avira, McAfee).
  • Giao diện WU bị lỗi (GUI broken).
  • Dịch vụ WU bị tắt bởi phần mềm tối ưu hệ thống.
  • Group Policy "Turn off auto-restart for updates during active hours" bật.
  • Hỏng file hệ thống sâu (cần repair install/clean install).

1. Chạy Windows Update Troubleshooter

Công cụ tự động sửa lỗi WU phổ biến:

  1. Win + R → ms-settings:troubleshoot → Enter.
  2. Chọn Windows Update → Run the troubleshooter.
  3. Đợi quét → Apply this fix nếu có.
  4. Restart → kiểm tra update.

2. Chạy SFC và DISM

Sửa file hệ thống hỏng gây lỗi WU:

  1. CMD Admin → sfc /scannow → đợi xong → restart.
  2. Vẫn lỗi → CMD Admin → DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth (cần internet).
  3. Restart → test update.

3. Ẩn bản update gây lỗi (Hide Update)

Nếu chỉ 1 bản update cụ thể báo lỗi 0x8000FFFF → có thể là bản update xấu. Dùng tool Microsoft Show or Hide Updates:

  1. Tải tool từ trang Microsoft chính thức.
  2. Chạy → Advanced → tích Apply Repairs Automatically → Next.
  3. Chọn Hide Updates → tick bản update lỗi → Next.
  4. Hoàn tất → restart.

Có thể hiện lại sau khi Microsoft fix bản update đó.

4. Xóa file Hosts

Entry sai trong file Hosts chặn kết nối WU server (phổ biến Win 11):

  1. Win + R → C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc → Enter.
  2. Tab View → tích File name extensions.
  3. Chuột phải file hosts → Rename → thêm .old (→ hosts.old).
  4. Restart → Windows tự tạo file hosts mới sạch.

5. Cập nhật qua Media Creation Tool

Bỏ qua WU local, dùng tool cài đặt Windows nâng cấp trực tiếp:

  1. Tải Media Creation Tool (Windows 10 hoặc 11) từ microsoft.com.
  2. Chạy file .exe với quyền Admin → làm theo wizard Nâng cấp PC này (Upgrade this PC now).

6. Cập nhật / Tắt / Gỡ Antivirus thứ 3

  • Cập nhật AV + virus definition mới nhất → restart → test.
  • Vẫn lỗi → tắt Real-time protection (thường ở khay hệ thống).
  • Vẫn lỗi → Gỡ cài đặt hoàn toàn AV (dùng tool gỡ chuyên dụng của hãng để xóa sạch file rác).

7. Reset thư mục SoftwareDistribution và Catroot2

Xóa cache update hỏng, buộc Windows tạo thư mục mới:

  1. CMD Admin (Win + R → cmd → Ctrl + Shift + Enter).
  2. Chạy lần lượt:
net stop wuauserv
net stop cryptSvc
net stop bits
net stop msiserver

ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old

Restart → thử update lại.

8. Buộc cài update qua PowerShell

Bỏ qua GUI WU, gọi trực tiếp WU agent:

  1. PowerShell Admin (Win + R → powershell → Ctrl + Shift + Enter).
  2. Chạy: wuauclt.exe /UPDATENOW.
  3. Đợi xong → restart → kiểm tra WU.

9. Kiểm tra và bật các dịch vụ WU cần thiết

Đảm bảo các dịch vụ sau đang chạy (Startup = Automatic):

  • Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS)
  • COM+ Event System
  • DCOM Server Process Launcher
  • Windows Update (wuauserv)
  • Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

Cách kiểm tra: services.msc → tìm từng dịch vụ → chuột phải → Properties → Startup type: Automatic → Start (nếu Stopped).

10. Cài đặt thủ công bản update từ Microsoft Update Catalog

Bỏ qua WU local hoàn toàn:

  1. Xác định kiến trúc OS: File Explorer → This PC → Properties → System type (64-bit / 32-bit).
  2. Truy cập Microsoft Update Catalog → tìm tên bản update (KBxxxxxx).
  3. Tải file .msu (hoặc .cab) đúng kiến trúc.
  4. Chạy file cài → restart.

11. Tắt Group Policy "Turn off auto-restart for updates during active hours"

Chỉ áp dụng Windows Pro/Enterprise (có gpedit.msc):

  1. Win + R → gpedit.msc → Enter.
  2. Điều hướng: Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → Windows Components → Windows Update.
  3. Tìm Turn off auto-restart for updates during active hours → Double-click → Disabled → OK.
  4. Restart.

12. Repair Install / Clean Install (Giải pháp cuối)

Nếu tất cả thất bại → hỏng sâu file hệ thống:

  • Clean Install: Format ổ C, cài mới Windows. Mất toàn bộ dữ liệu ổ C. Dễ thực hiện, không cần media phù hợp phiên bản.
  • Repair Install (In-place Upgrade): Cài đè Windows từ USB cài đặt (giữ file cá nhân, app, cài đặt). Cần USB cài Windows đúng phiên bản/build.

Khuyên dùng Repair Install trước để giữ dữ liệu. Backup quan trọng trước khi làm.
