Khắc phục lỗi 'Windows Was Unable to Complete the Format' trên SD Card/USB

Khi format SD Card/USB, bạn có thể gặp lỗi "Windows was unable to complete the format". Nguyên nhân: bad sector, thiết bị hỏng vật lý, write protection, virus/malware, hoặc Windows không đọc được bảng phân vùng FAT.

Điều kiện gây lỗi thường gặp:

  • File system dùng 2048 bytes/sector.
  • Đĩa đã dùng FAT file system.
  • Đã format bằng OS khác (Linux...) trước đó.

Phương pháp 1: Kiểm tra hỏng vật lý

Cắm SD/USB vào máy khác → xem có đọc được không. Cắm thẻ/USB khác vào cùng cổng → kiểm tra cổng. Loại trừ hỏng phần cứng trước.

Phương pháp 2: Kiểm tra Write Protection

Nếu bị khóa ghi (write protected) → không xóa/format được. Chuyển switch vật lý trên thiết bị sang vị trí Unlock.

Phương pháp 3: Format qua Disk Management

  1. Win + R → diskmgmt.msc → Enter.
  2. Nếu không vào được: Win + X → Control Panel → Administrative Tools → Computer Management → Disk Management.
  3. Tìm SD/USB → chuột phải → Format.
  4. Bỏ chọn Quick Format → làm theo hướng dẫn.

Phương pháp 4: Tắt Write Protection trong Registry

  1. Win + R → regedit → Enter.
  2. Đến: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies
  3. Nếu không có khóa StorageDevicePolicies → chuột phải Control → New → Key → tên StorageDevicePolicies.
  4. Tìm DWORD WriteProtect (nếu không có → New → DWORD 32-bit → tên WriteProtect).
  5. Double-click WriteProtect → set giá trị 0 (Disable Write Protection).
  6. Reboot → thử format lại.

Phương pháp 5: Format bằng Command Prompt (diskpart)

  1. CMD Admin → gõ lần lượt:
    diskpart
    list disk
  2. Xác định số disk của SD/USB → select disk X (X = số disk).
  3. Gõ lần lượt:
    clean
    create partition primary
    format fs=FAT32
    exit
  4. Nếu hiện: "The format cannot run because the volume is in use... Would you like to force a dismount? (Y/N)" → gõ Y → Enter.
  5. Format xong → thiết bị sẵn sàng dùng.

Phương pháp 6: Dùng SD Formatter

Lưu ý: Xóa toàn bộ dữ liệu – backup trước.

  1. Tải SD Formatter từ trang chủ.
  2. Cài đặt → mở app → chọn Drive letter của thiết bị.
  3. Formatting options → chọn Overwrite format.
  4. Confirm "Formatting will erase all data..." → Yes.
  5. Chờ format xong (có thể lâu) → rút và cắm lại thiết bị.
